The 2008-09 budget provides $5 million for community-based organizations to provide life skills and job training. The budget also includes a $3.3 million increase for workers' salaries and operating costs.

The Saskatchewan Assistance Program is a program of last resort for families and individuals who, for various reasons, including disability, illness, low income or unemployment, cannot meet basic living costs.

Any person in financial need may apply for assistance. During an intake interview, the worker and the applicant establish the client's needs and resources and develop a case plan.

Who is eligible for the Saskatchewan Assistance Program?

The Saskatchewan Assistance Program is a program of last resort for families and individuals who, for various reasons, including disability, illness, low income or unemployment, cannot meet basic living costs.

Any person in financial need may apply for assistance. Financial need is determined by balancing allowable needs against available resources. When needs exceed resources financial assistance may be available.

How much does the Saskatchewan Assistance Program pay?

Every person's case is unique. We have various forms of funding available depending on a client's specific needs.

The Saskatchewan Assistance Program has an adult allowance which includes food, clothing, travel, personal and household items. As well, there is a shelter allowance which varies depending on the community you live in, whether you are sharing accommodations and the size of your family.
